Topophyla (Tow-Poe-Fahy-luh ) is an analysis and process driven landscape design firm serving Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and the Bay Area. Topophyla embraces the connection between the earth's landscape and the intricate tapestry of lifeforms that occupy it. The name merges 'topo,' meaning earth, with 'phyla,' referring to the major divisions in the natural world that share a common evolutionary origin.

This fusion reflects a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living beings and their shared foundation upon the earth. Topophyla stands by designing with a holistic vision, where every landscape architecture project is an opportunity to honor the unity and diversity of life. With an emphasis on sense of place and site-specific design, Topophyla brings a relevant and unique approach to every project.

Nahal Sohbati

Landscape Designer

Born in Tehran, Nahal always had a passion for art and design. She received her bachelors in Interior Design from Ajman University of Science and Technology, Dubai. Soon after she followed her passion for design by studying Landscape Architecture at the Academy of Art in San Francisco Her studies at AAU have proven very successful with award winning garden designs as well as public realm projects in production now.

Eric Arneson

Landscape Architect

Eric Arneson received his bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the School of landscape architecture at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. From Healdsburg California, Eric studied Fine Art and Botany at Santa Rosa Junior College resulting in his passion for Landscape Design. Focused on the mixture of aesthetics, function, and ecology Eric brings a strong sense of design and a passion for problem solving to all of his projects.
